NEW YORK: Take-Two Interactive has sought user records from Microsoft and Discord. It is trying to identify those behind a series of GTA 6 leaks circulating online ahead of Rockstar Games’ August 27 showcase.
Take-Two filed two Digital Millennium Copyright Act subpoena petitions in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York on August 20. These requests seek information linked to accounts and Discord servers allegedly involved in distributing unreleased Grand Theft Auto VI footage.
The Microsoft request also covers information connected with GitHub, which Microsoft owns. Court filings cited a GitHub repository alongside Discord activity as Take-Two sought to identify alleged infringers. The requested compliance deadline is September 4.
The legal action follows the release of gameplay clips by an individual or group using the name CyberLeek. The footage appears to contain material from an unreleased GTA 6 build. However, Rockstar has not publicly identified who obtained it or how it was acquired.
Separately, the GTA community account KINGJulien said on X on August 21 that an open-source intelligence investigation had linked CyberLeek to a person with a history of malicious activity under another alias. He claimed to have privately sent his findings to the legal teams of Rockstar and Take-Two.

KINGJulien also claimed the leaked material may come from a roughly year-old build. He said it could have been obtained around April 2026. Additionally, he suggested either compromised access or an internal incident as possible explanations. However, none of those conclusions has been independently confirmed by Rockstar, Take-Two or law enforcement.
Rockstar’s official GTA 6 page confirms that “Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look” will premiere on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET on August 27. It will become available on Rockstar’s YouTube channel and website at 9 p.m. ET. Furthermore, GTA 6 is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
