European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the US-Iran pact on Tuesday and urged full freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Von der Leyen wrote on X that she congratulated US President Donald Trump in Évian-les-Bains, France, on the Iran nuclear deal. The comments came during the G7 summit.
She said both leaders agreed the pact should mean a definitive end to Iran’s nuclear programme. She also said the Strait of Hormuz would reopen and oil prices were falling.
In a separate post, von der Leyen said the first priority was the full restoration of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz without restrictions.
She said recent events in the Strait exposed strategic vulnerabilities. She called for work on alternative supply routes and new corridors, including the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor.
