KARACHI, Sindh: The 7.05% increase in the Karachi water tariff has raised the average monthly bill for domestic and commercial consumers from about Rs900 to around Rs1,000, according to KW&SC.

The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) said the adjustment applies during fiscal year 2026-27 and adds roughly Rs100 per month to the average bill.

Chief Commercial Officer Haris Sarfraz said the increase was linked to the annual Consumer Price Index (CPI) for FY 2025-26. He said the corporation implemented the revision under the provisions of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation Act.

The tariff adjustment covers about 1.289 million domestic and commercial consumers in Karachi. It also applies to around 8,000 bulk and industrial consumers.

For bulk and industrial users billed by volume, KW&SC raised the tariff from 0.526 paisa per gallon to 0.563 paisa per gallon.

Sarfraz said rising electricity, fuel, repair and maintenance costs, along with ageing infrastructure, had increased the corporation’s operating expenses.

According to KW&SC, revenue from the adjustment will support rehabilitation of water transmission and distribution networks, repairs to critical facilities and upgrades to Karachi’s sewerage system.
