KARACHI: A Karachi water supply disruption will affect five areas for 48 hours from 10 a.m. on August 3 as KW&SC upgrades the Gharo Old Pumping House.
The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) said Ibrahim Hyderi, Landhi, Shah Faisal Colony, PAF Base Masroor and areas surrounding Karsaz would face reduced or suspended supplies.
The technical work will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 3, and end at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, according to the utility’s schedule.
KW&SC said the Gharo New Pump House would remain operational during the work. Karachi normally receives about 650 million gallons daily, of which approximately 625 million gallons will continue to be pumped. The upgrade will create a temporary shortfall of around 25 million gallons per day.

The project includes installing and energising new motors, pumps and switchgear. Workers will also relocate a 1,000-kVA transformer, lay power cables and activate a new switching system.
KW&SC Managing Director Ahmed Ali Siddiqui directed officers to complete the work within the announced timeframe. The corporation said the upgrade would improve the Gharo station’s capacity and operational reliability.
Residents in the affected areas should store sufficient water before the shutdown and limit consumption during the 48-hour period,
