KARACHI, Sindh: The Karachi administration sealed the NIPA water hydrant again after Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of water tankers disrupting traffic on University Road.
The Assistant Commissioner of Gulshan-e-Iqbal deployed a mobile van at the site after sealing the facility. Long queues of water tankers at the hydrant had caused severe traffic jams on University Road.
The chief minister was travelling to NED University when he saw tankers parked near the route. The parked tankers also created difficulties for the chief minister’s convoy.
The district administration acted on the Deputy Commissioner East’s directions and sealed the NIPA hydrant.

Officials from the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation said the hydrant would remain closed indefinitely.
They said water transportation through tankers had stopped after the closure. The facility had faced action before.
The Mayor of Karachi had earlier sealed the hydrant for illegal operation and imposed a Rs10 million fine. The Federal Board of Revenue had also sealed the facility in a previous action.
