The FAA said the aircraft was approaching Newark Liberty International Airport when it hit a light pole on the New Jersey Turnpike.
Fox Business cited preliminary findings. These findings say the plane’s landing gear and underside struck a pole and a tractor-trailer. This pushed the pole into a moving jeep on the roadway. United Airlines has opened an investigation into the incident.
The National Transportation Safety Board has also launched a probe. It has directed United Airlines to secure the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder.
The NTSB said a preliminary report was expected within 30 days
