KENNER, Louisiana: The Milo Yiannopoulos detention followed a visa overstay and final removal order, with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement holding the British commentator pending deportation, federal officials said.
ICE detained Yiannopoulos at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport on August 27. The Department of Homeland Security said he legally entered the United States through New York on May 14, 2019, but later overstayed his visa.
An immigration judge issued a final removal order on July 22 after Yiannopoulos failed to appear at an immigration hearing, DHS said. Officials said he would remain in federal custody while authorities arrange his removal.
ICE records still listed Yiannopoulos in custody Friday evening, although his precise Louisiana detention facility was not publicly identified.

Yiannopoulos previously worked as an editor at Breitbart News and became prominent in US conservative politics during the 2016 presidential campaign.

He later worked with Ye (formerly Kanye West) and former Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene. The detention also follows Yiannopoulos’ repeated public support for tougher immigration enforcement.
CBS News documented 2025 posts in which he advocated widespread ICE checkpoints and large-scale deportations. Authorities did not disclose the exact time of his August 27 arrest, so no local-time or PKT conversion was available.
