The case of an alleged sexual assault in Islamabad involving a woman claiming to be a foreign tourist has taken a significant turn following new revelations by the police.
Initially, the woman reported that she was a tourist from Belgium, alleging that she had been abducted and sexually assaulted by individuals in Pakistan over five days before being left bound in the G-6 area of Islamabad.
Prompted by her allegations, the police immediately commenced an investigation, which included verifying her claims with the Belgian embassy and reviewing all airport records across Pakistan. The inquiry established that no Belgian tourist matching her description was currently in the country.
Subsequent medical examinations did not corroborate her claims of sexual assault. Further investigative efforts revealed that the woman is a Pakistani national, identified as Farwa Kiyani, daughter of Sultan Fareed Kiani and a resident of Rawalpindi. Ms. Kiyani does not speak Urdu but communicates in Pothohari, a local dialect.
Her fingerprints are set to be cross-referenced with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) records for definitive identification. The police have also noted concerns regarding Ms. Kiyani’s mental health, observing that her condition suggests instability. They are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding how she came to be tied up and abandoned, as well as the reasons behind her initial false representation as a foreigner.
