Earlier the Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar on Monday had invited the TTP for a round cricket. He had stated that TTP members appeared to be interested in cricket and a ‘positive outcome’ might materialize from such a match.
The TTP categorically rejected the offer, saying the sport was responsible for turning the youth away from ‘Jihad’.
Speaking to AFP by telephone from an undisclosed location, TTP spokesman Shahidullah Shahid said:
“These secular people want to distance our youth from Jihad and Islamic teachings through cricket. We are strongly against cricket and dislike it,” he said. “We are ready to open the deadlock in peace talks created by the government.
