LAHORE: TTAP Punjab’s strategy for the upcoming local government elections will focus on workers’ conventions in Lahore and a joint opposition plan, the alliance said on Tuesday.
The Punjab chapter of the Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Ayin-e-Pakistan took the decisions at a Lahore meeting. The meeting reviewed the political situation and the alliance’s organisational priorities.
Haqooq-e-Khalq Party leaders Ammar Jan, Haider Butt and Farooq Tariq attended the meeting. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders Mian Akram Usman, Shayan Bashir and Yasir Gillani also joined it.
Participants said the alliance would hold workers’ conventions across Lahore to improve grassroots mobilisation.
They also agreed to begin talks on seat adjustments and coordinated electoral planning. The alliance said the plan aimed to reduce vote-splitting among its parties.
Meanwhile, the meeting expressed concern over what participants called curbs on political freedoms and democratic rights. It also criticised the reported denial of permission to Mahmood Khan to travel to Kashmir.

The participants criticised the recent Supreme Court ruling on PTI’s election symbol. They said the decision would affect a level electoral playing field and fair political representation.
The alliance also opposed the Punjab Control of Habitual Offenders Bill. It said the proposed law could threaten freedom of expression and political activity under the cover of public order.
