ANKARA, Türkiye: ASELSAN infrared detectors are being integrated into several Turkish defence platforms in cooled and uncooled configurations, the company said Monday.
ASELSAN said it developed and manufactures the critical detector components using domestic microelectronics expertise.
The company said the capability placed Türkiye among a limited group of countries producing infrared detectors. ASELSAN published its X announcement.
The detector family supports the Yamgöz 200 surveillance system on Türkiye’s Altay main battle tank.
It also linked the detectors to the Toygun electro-optical system aboard the Bayraktar Kızılelma unmanned combat aircraft. The company cited Hisar air-defence missile sensors within Türkiye’s Steel Dome architecture.
ASELSAN said the technology can also support drones, missile seekers, targeting systems and the KAAN fighter’s electro-optical suite. According to the company, cooled and uncooled designs address different operational requirements.

The Defence Post said the detectors support thermal vision, target detection and precision tracking across military platforms.
Such systems improve operations at night and in fog, smoke or dust. However, ASELSAN’s latest post did not explicitly refer to the technology as Türkiye’s first infrared detector.
An April 2019 company brochure stated that ASELSAN had design and production capabilities for cooled MCT detectors.
A July 2023 brochure described FELIS, LEOPAR and SAFIR detector projects, including production and delivery plans.
Those records make the source report’s “first domestic infrared detector” label unsupported by ASELSAN’s latest announcement.
