Donald Trump stated on Saturday that Nikki Haley, former Republican presidential candidate, is not being considered for the Vice President role in the upcoming November election.
On Truth Social, Trump expressed, “Nikki Haley is not under consideration for the V.P. slot, but I wish her well!”
Axios had previously suggested that Trump might choose Haley if persuaded that she could contribute significantly to his campaign’s success and possibly help him avoid legal and financial repercussions.
Nikki Haley, who served as the governor of South Carolina and as a U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, withdrew from the presidential race against Trump in March. Having faced disparagement from Trump during her campaign, Haley has recognized him as the likely Republican nominee, though she has yet to endorse him.
A broad list of potential vice presidential candidates remains, including North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, Senators Marco Rubio, Tim Scott, J.D. Vance, and Representative Elise Stefanik.
Burgum and Scott had previously challenged Trump for the 2024 Republican nomination but have since withdrawn. Noem recently faced controversy following her admission in a memoir of having shot a young dog for disobedience.
According to Trump’s advisers, he is taking his time to select a running mate. The formal nomination will occur at the Republican convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, this July. Trump is set to compete against Democrat Joe Biden in the general election on November 5.
