U.S. President Donald Trump warned Iran on Sunday to move quickly toward a peace deal with Washington, saying Tehran risked severe consequences if it delayed an agreement.
“For Iran, the clock is ticking,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, adding that “time is of the essence.”
The warning came as talks between Washington and Tehran remained stalled, following a truce agreed on April 8 that failed to produce a broader peace settlement.
The conflict began after U.S. and Israeli forces launched major strikes on Iran on February 28. The war has shaken the Middle East and pushed energy prices higher.
The fighting has also created an effective blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway that carries about 20% of global oil exports in peacetime.
Iran has demanded a lasting ceasefire in Lebanon before any wider peace agreement with Trump. Tehran has rejected an accord on Washington’s terms.
An Israeli military official said Hezbollah fired about 200 projectiles at Israel and its troops over the weekend, despite Israel and Lebanon extending a ceasefire.
Iran’s Fars news agency said Washington offered no concrete concessions in its latest response to Tehran’s negotiation agenda. It said the U.S. proposal included keeping one Iranian nuclear site operational and transferring highly enriched uranium stockpiles to the United States.
