Washington, United States: The U.S. House blocked a resolution that would have required President Donald J. Trump to obtain congressional approval to continue military operations against Iran, ending in a 212-212 tie on Thursday.
Representative Jared Golden of Maine was the lone Democrat to vote against advancing the measure. Three Republicans, Brian Fitzpatrick (PA), Tom Barrett (MI), and Thomas Massie (KY), broke ranks to support it.
The resolution, sponsored by Representative Josh Gottheimer (NY), invoked the 1973 War Powers Resolution, which requires presidential authorisation from Congress for military operations after 60 days. The 60-day deadline passed on May 1.
Trump and senior administration officials argue the law is unconstitutional and claim the cease-fire effectively paused the 60-day clock. Trump described the cease-fire as on “life support.”

The vote comes amid rising U.S. fuel and grocery prices, with supporters citing economic strain as a reason to defy the administration’s unilateral approach.
