President Donald Trump’s approval rating fell to 34%, the lowest level of his current term, as Americans gave weaker marks on living costs and the Iran war, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll.
The four-day poll, completed Monday, showed Trump down from 36% in the previous Reuters/Ipsos survey conducted from April 15 to 20.
Reuters/Ipsos said most responses came before Saturday night’s shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, where Trump was due to speak. Federal prosecutors have charged the accused gunman with attempting to assassinate the president.
Trump’s approval has fallen from 47% when he took office in January 2025. Only 22% of respondents approved of Trump’s handling of the cost of living, down from 25% in the previous poll.
US gasoline prices have risen more than 40% to about USD 4.18 a gallon since the United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28. The poll found that 78% of Republicans still support Trump, while 41% disapprove of his handling of living costs.
