The San Antonio Spurs beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 122-115 in double overtime in Game 1 of the Spurs-Thunder series on Monday to take a 1-0 lead in the NBA Western Conference Finals.
Victor Wembanyama led San Antonio with 41 points and 24 rebounds at Paycom Centre in Oklahoma City, according to NBA.com and Sky Sports. Dylan Harper added 24 points and a franchise playoff record seven steals.
Wembanyama sealed the game with back-to-back dunks in the final minute, including a three-point play, as the Spurs handed the Thunder their first loss of the postseason.
The 22-year-old also became the youngest player to record at least 40 points and 20 rebounds in an NBA playoff game, beating the mark Kareem Abdul-Jabbar set in 1970.
Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander finished with 24 points and 12 assists on the night he received his second straight Most Valuable Player trophy, NBA.com reported. Jalen Williams returned from injury and scored 26 points for the Thunder.
Yahoo Sports reported that Wembanyama outdueled Gilgeous-Alexander in the opener, while local reports said Alex Caruso led Oklahoma City with 31 points. Game 2 is scheduled for Wednesday in Oklahoma City, NBA.com reported
