LONDON: A fire near Wembley Stadium sent thick smoke over northwest London on Friday, August 28, as 125 firefighters tackled a mixed-waste facility blaze in Neasden, the London Fire Brigade said.
The brigade received the first of more than 70 emergency calls at 11:34 a.m. BST and deployed 20 fire engines to Hannah Close. Crews from Wembley, Park Royal, Willesden and surrounding stations responded.
The London Fire Brigade said an industrial unit measuring about 100 metres by 150 metres was alight. Three 32-metre aerial ladders, a drone team, a hose-laying unit and a high-volume pump were deployed as firefighters worked to control the blaze.
Authorities urged residents in the immediate area to remain indoors where possible and keep doors and windows closed because of the heavy smoke. The cause of the fire remained unknown.
The emergency disrupted London’s transport network. The Metropolitan line was suspended, while the Jubilee line had no service between Willesden Green and Wembley Park and faced severe delays elsewhere.

Rail services into London Marylebone were also affected. National Rail said lines towards Aylesbury were disrupted and trains could be cancelled, revised or delayed by up to 40 minutes.
An Amazon facility nearby was evacuated as a precaution, while the London Ambulance Service said it was not treating any patients related to the fire at the time of the update.
