HARIPUR, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said Saturday the province would toughen its child protection law after the rape and death of five-year-old Ayat Noor.
Afridi made the announcement while visiting the child’s family in Haripur on August 29. He said the proposed legislation would be named after Ayat Noor and pledged provincial support for the family’s pursuit of justice.
The girl disappeared from outside her home on August 10. Police recovered her body from an unused well at a warehouse.
August 24 after information provided during the investigation, according to District Police Officer Shafiullah Gandapur. Four suspects have been arrested.
A post-mortem report later confirmed sexual assault and said the child died from excessive bleeding and shock. Police said the investigation remained underway, while DNA and forensic testing were also being conducted.
Afridi directed police and the district administration to strengthen child protection and public safety measures. He also appealed to the judiciary to deal strictly with those responsible, while guilt will ultimately be determined through the legal process.

The chief minister also announced that a government girls’ school in Pathan Colony would be renamed after Ayat Noor. The provincial government also plans a Rs2 billion Safe City camera project for Haripur and financial assistance for the family.
