Lorde Calls Out Spotify AI Error on ‘Current Affairs’

Lorde criticised a Spotify AI song error after its “About the Song” feature linked “Current Affairs” to a concert sequence that the singer performed during “GRWM.”

The New Zealand singer shared a screenshot of the inaccurate description on her Instagram Story on July 16. She told Spotify that artists should be allowed to opt out of the feature.

The description claimed that Lorde turned “Current Affairs” into a performance in which she removed her clothing while a dancer poured water over her. However, that sequence appeared during “GRWM” on her 2025 Ultrasound World Tour.

Lorde said the error was not her only concern. She argued that placing an AI-generated interpretation beside a song could restrict how listeners understand the music.

“I’m going to go out on a limb and say we don’t want this,” she wrote, according to Pitchfork. Both tracks appear on Lorde’s fourth studio album, “Virgin,” released in 2025.

Spotify introduced “About the Song” in February 2026. The beta feature displays short cards about a track’s meaning, production and inspiration in the mobile app’s Now Playing view.

The streaming company says the summaries draw information from third-party publications. Spotify currently offers the feature to Premium subscribers in selected markets and automatically adds summaries to qualifying tracks.

A Spotify spokesperson told Pitchfork that the company corrected the description after learning about the error. The spokesperson said the feature remained in beta and that accurate information was important to the platform.
