KARACHI: The Sindh High Court sought replies on Thursday over more than 500 Sindh Welfare Board appointments made between 2021 and 2026.
The petitioner’s lawyer alleged that the Sindh Workers Welfare Board failed to comply with the required hiring rules.
He told the court that the board filled vacancies without publishing public advertisements. Candidates also did not take written tests or attend interviews, the counsel said.
The petition named the board’s chairman, secretary and other officials as respondents. The petitioner asked the court to declare all appointments made during the five-year period null and void.
After hearing the initial arguments, the court directed the respondents to submit their replies by August 18.

Earlier this year, Sindh Labour Minister and board chairman Saeed Ghani said the government had withdrawn disputed projects and ordered transparent inquiries.
The board also raised the death grant from Rs700,000 to Rs1 million and the marriage grant from Rs200,000 to Rs400,000.
To ensure transparency and oversight, centralised committees were also formed to monitor all board activities. Additionally, the appointment of a Public Relations Officer for the board was approved.
