Michael Smith has been appointed Pakistan batting coach on a two-year contract and will join the men’s national team before its three-Test tour of England, the Pakistan Cricket Board said.
The International Cricket Council said the 46-year-old will work across red-ball and white-ball formats. Smith played 89 first-class matches, 72 List A games and 16 T20S between 2003 and 2013.
Smith has coached in the Pakistan Super League with Islamabad United and Karachi Kings. He also served as Multan Sultans’ assistant coach earlier this season.
His overseas roles included batting-coach positions with the Hobart Hurricanes and Cricket Tasmania. He also worked as a coaching consultant for KZN Inland and Eastern Province in South Africa.
Smith will take charge before the first Test against England begins at Headingley in Leeds on August 19. The remaining Tests start at Lord’s in London on August 27 and Edgbaston in Birmingham on September 9.

Pakistan are currently playing a two-Test series in the West Indies before travelling to England. The team are ninth in the ICC World Test Championship 2025–27 standings.
