Sindh government is reluctant to extend the special police powers delegated to Sindh Rangers which has expired in the midnight of July 07 (Tuesday).
According to sources, the Sindh government has not issued any notification neither Sindh Home Department has received any directives from the provincial government.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that the matter relating the rangers powers will be taken to Sindh assembly that will take decision in this regard.
“We will also talk to the rangers over powers,” he added.
According to an earlier notification issued by Sindh Home Department, rangers were allowed to cordon off, block any place and launch search or conduct raid anywhere across the city.
Sindh Government had rendered special powers to rangers for arresting culprits from anywhere and launching investigations.
Sindh Rangers was assigned these additional powers on September 4, 2013 for arrests and raids in order to curb targeted killings, extortion mafia activities, kidnapping for ransom and other sabotage activities.
