Karachi, Sindh, approved a Sindh bike taxi tax cut on Tuesday, reducing Sindh Sales Tax on motorcycle passenger services from 5% to 2%, the Sindh Chief Minister’s House said.
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah at the CM House.
The tax cut applies to net fares earned by motorcycle riders using ride-hailing platforms such as Bykea. Officials said the relief was aimed at supporting low-income riders, protecting livelihoods and reducing ride cancellations.
The measure is expected to have an annual financial impact of about Rs120 million, according to the statement.
The cabinet also approved more than Rs30 billion in development, welfare and reform initiatives across infrastructure, healthcare, education, governance and public relief.
The cabinet approved the appointment of Faisal Malik as Member Finance and Policy of the Sindh Electric Power Regulatory Authority to support its full operationalisation.
It also amended the vice chancellor appointment framework, raising the maximum age limit from 62 to 65 years and increasing the required experience from 15 to 20 years.
Candidates for vice chancellor posts will also need at least 10 publications recognised by the Higher Education Commission.
The cabinet approved the Draft Recruitment Rules and Service Regulations 2026 for all seven Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education in Sindh.
It also approved the Sindh Protection of Human Rights Amendment Bill, 2026, and the establishment of the Benazir Institute of Urology and Transplant under a new law.
