SAN DIEGO: Marvel Studios cast actor Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider in a standalone film scheduled for 2028, the studio announced at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, July 25.

Director Shawn Levy will helm the film, with Jonathan Tropper writing the screenplay, according to The Walt Disney Company.

Gosling joined Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and Levy onstage during the Hall H presentation. “This is a character I’ve wanted to play for a long time,” he told the audience.

The project reunites Gosling with Levy following their work on the upcoming “Star Wars: Starfighter.” Marvel has not announced the Ghost Rider film’s exact release date.

Nicolas Cage previously portrayed Johnny Blaze in “Ghost Rider” in 2007 and “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance” in 2011. Those Sony films were not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel also announced that actor David Jonsson will become the new Black Panther in Ryan Coogler’s “Black Panther 3.” The studio scheduled the film for release on December 15, 2028.

Jonsson will portray the adult T’Challa, also known as Toussaint. The character is the son of Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa and Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia, introduced in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” in 2022.

Ryan Reynolds later appeared among the audience dressed as “Jeanpool,” an all-denim version of Deadpool. He jokingly questioned the “Avengers: Doomsday” cast about adding him to the film, Entertainment Weekly reported.

Marvel has not confirmed Reynolds as a member of the “Avengers: Doomsday” cast. The film will reach cinemas on December 18, 2026.
