Peshawar’s Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) suspended a Station House Officer (SHO) and initiated an internal investigation into his alleged disrespectful treatment of a terrorist’s body.
The incident occurred on June 5th, when the police fatally shot a militant, Azmat alias Malang, during a confrontation in Peshawar’s Mattani area. The body of the deceased militant was then affixed to the bonnet of an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) and transported to the police station, making a public spectacle along the streets.
The senior police authorities took action after a video documenting this controversial incident began circulating on social media platforms, igniting public outrage.
The investigation into the incident will be led by the Superintendent of Police (SP) of the Saddar Circle, according to police sources.
Meanwhile, last month, Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, appealed to Islamabad and the criminal organization to engage in dialogue amidst continuing acts of terror in Pakistan that endanger innocent lives.
Minister Muttaqi, representing the Taliban-led administration, called for dialogue between Pakistan and TTP (Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan) during an event in Islamabad.
However, Pakistan’s frustration has been escalating due to the Taliban administration’s inability to control the TTP, which is believed to be instigating a fresh wave of terror in the country. With Pakistan’s deteriorating security situation in northern and southwestern provinces, authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to eliminating terrorism.
Despite numerous rounds of dialogue between Islamabad and the outlawed TTP facilitated by Kabul, the talks fell through last year, leading to an upsurge in terrorist activities carried out by the militant group.
