WASHINGTON, United States: Trump issued a Pickaxe Mountain warning to Iran on Wednesday, saying Washington had detected activity at the fortified site near the Natanz uranium enrichment complex.
“We notice there’s a little activity at Pickaxe,” U.S. President Donald Trump said during a speech at the Republican midterm convention. He warned Iran that the United States could strike the site “very hard.”
Pickaxe Mountain lies about 220 kilometres south of Tehran and roughly two kilometres from Natanz. The site contains two deeply buried tunnel complexes.
Trump has threatened strikes on Pickaxe Mountain since at least mid-July. The nearby Natanz complex was struck in March during U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran, while Israel also hit the facility during the previous year’s 12-day conflict.

However, the tunnel facility under construction at Pickaxe Mountain was not targeted in either round of attacks, according to the U.S.-based Institute for Science and International Security.

Trump has identified weakening Iran’s nuclear capabilities as one objective of the war. Iran says its uranium enrichment programme is for peaceful purposes and maintains that it does not possess nuclear weapons.
