ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif renewed his dialogue offer to the opposition on Thursday and said the federal government was ready for meaningful talks.
Speaking at a federal cabinet meeting, Shehbaz said the opposition must now decide when to return to the negotiating table.
“We are ready for meaningful dialogue,” the prime minister said. He added that talks could help strengthen democracy and support economic growth.
Previous negotiations between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ended without a breakthrough.
The fresh offer followed a Supreme Court order concerning incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan. The court directed Adiala Jail authorities to move him to Shifa International Hospital.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan welcomed the ruling. He urged political leaders to settle differences through dialogue and avoid statements that could raise tensions.
Imran Khan has remained in prison since August 2023. He and PTI have described the cases against him as politically motivated. Shehbaz said the federal government remained ready to engage, adding: “It takes two to tango.”
