LAHORE, Punjab: A viral notification claiming that the province created four new districts is fake, Punjab officials said
The document names Pattoki, Depalpur, Hasilpur and Haroonabad as new districts. It claims the change raised Punjab’s total from 41 to 45.
A Threads user shared the alleged Revenue Department notice on August 17. The document is dated June 1, 2026.
However, the notice wrongly identifies Zaheer Abbas Malik as Punjab’s chief secretary. Zahid Akhtar Zaman has held that post since January 24, 2023.
A spokesperson for the Board of Revenue, Punjab, told the outlet that officials had created no new district. The spokesperson also said neither the Punjab government nor the board issued the notice.

Punjab Information Minister Azma Zahid Bokhari also called the document fake and said it could not find the alleged notification on the Board of Revenue website.
The false document also circulated on Facebook and Instagram.
