Since the Bangladesh Test series began, Pakistan’s skipper Shan Masood has been constantly scrutinised on social media.
The Pakistan Cricket Team faces challenges exacerbated by frequent board and coaching staff changes and declining on-field performances. The first Test against Bangladesh marked a historic loss for Pakistan—their first-ever in this format against Bangladesh. This loss escalated criticisms during the ongoing second test in Rawalpindi.
On the third day of the match, Shan Masood faced intense backlash for his fielding mishaps. He notably dropped a crucial catch off Hasan Mahmud’s bat during the 75th over, delivered by Khurram Shahzad. Positioned at cover, Masood failed to secure what seemed a straightforward opportunity, and the ball fell to the grass. This error, caught on video, rapidly spread across social media platforms, drawing severe criticism from fans and followers.
This was not the team’s only fielding error in the match; Saud Shakeel had previously dropped an easy catch of opener Shadman Islam. These slip-ups visibly frustrated Masood and were evident in his disappointed expression, a sentiment echoed by commentators who described the missed catches as ‘regulation’.
Meanwhile, the match saw a dramatic shift as Bangladesh’s Litton Das scored a resilient century, rallying his team from a dire 26-6 to a total of 262 all out on Sunday. This turnaround has intensified the contest, leaving the outcome of the Test uncertain. At the close of the third day, Bangladesh had Pakistan struggling at 9-2, with Abdullah Shafique and nightwatchman Khurram Shahzad dismissed early by Hasan Mahmud.
