Islamabad: A local court sentenced the main accused, Umar Hayat, to death in the Sana Yousaf murder case and imposed fines totalling Rs2.5 million, according to the court ruling announced Tuesday.
Additional Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka issued the reserved verdict in the federal capital. The court also handed Hayat cumulative prison terms of 21 years under multiple charges, including 10 years each under Sections 392 and 499, along with fines.
The judgment came nearly 11 months after TikTok influencer Sana Yousaf was shot dead at her Islamabad home on June 2, 2025. Yousaf had more than 800,000 followers on TikTok and over one million followers across social media platforms.
During final arguments, prosecutor Naveed Kiayani told the court that the prosecution produced 27 witnesses and submitted medical, digital and documentary evidence. He said doctors from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) confirmed the victim suffered fatal gunshot injuries to the heart and lungs.

The prosecution said investigators traced the accused through the victim’s mobile phone, call records and chat screenshots. Eyewitnesses also identified the accused and described the weapon and clothing linked to the incident, according to the proceedings.
In the previous hearing, Hayat withdrew his earlier confession and denied involvement in the killing. He claimed he was in Faisalabad at the time of the incident and alleged flaws in the investigation, identification parade and legal process.
Speaking outside court, Sana Yousaf’s father said the family had waited 11 months for justice and praised the judiciary for the verdict. The victim’s mother, Farzana Yousaf, also thanked prosecutors and lawyers for presenting what she called a strong case.
