Roger Federer will return to the US Open for a one-night exhibition on August 25 at Arthur Ashe Stadium, the United States Tennis Association said Monday.
The 44-year-old retired Swiss tennis star will play in “Roger Federer: An Icon Returns to New York” with Andre Agassi, John McEnroe and Andy Roddick.
Federer last played at the US Open in 2019, when he reached the quarter-finals. He won five of his 20 Grand Slam singles titles in New York.
The former world No. 1 won at Flushing Meadows from 2004 through 2008. He remains the only player, male or female, to win five consecutive singles titles on the New York hardcourts.
“The US Open has always been one of the most special tournaments for me,” Federer said in a statement. He said many unforgettable moments from his career happened in New York.
Federer said Arthur Ashe Stadium means a great deal to him. He added that sharing the evening with Roddick, Agassi and McEnroe makes the return more meaningful.
