WASHINGTON, United States: Trump 9/11 plans will place President Donald Trump at the Pentagon on September 11, while four former U.S. presidents attend the 25th-anniversary ceremony at Ground Zero in New York.
Former presidents Joe Biden, Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton are expected at the World Trade Centre site. Vice President JD Vance will represent the White House at the Manhattan ceremony.
Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will instead attend the Pentagon memorial, where 184 people were killed in the September 11, 2001 attacks.
The New York Times reported that Trump had initially considered attending the New York ceremony but changed plans after discussions about rules barring political speeches.
Trump disputed that account on August 28, calling it false and saying he preferred not to speak because the anniversary should focus on victims and their families.
The National September 11 Memorial & Museum has barred politicians from delivering speeches at the Ground Zero commemoration since 2012.

White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said Trump would honour those killed, their families and first responders. The White House has not said the speaking restriction influenced his decision to attend the Pentagon ceremony.
Trump is scheduled to depart from Joint Base Andrews in Maryland for Ireland after the memorial events.
