Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) plans to hold a farewell ceremony for Kylian Mbappe on Sunday. The event, reported by the French newspaper L’Équipe, will honour his contributions to the club.
Mbappe, who joined PSG in 2017 at age 18, is expected to leave for Real Madrid soon. Real Madrid recently advanced to the UEFA Champions League final after defeating Bayern Munich.
Mbappe aimed to lead PSG to their first Champions League victory. They faced Borussia Dortmund in the semi-final second leg at the Parc des Princes. Despite being favourites, PSG could not reverse a one-goal deficit from the first leg. Dortmund won with a 2-0 aggregate score after Mats Hummels scored the decisive goal.
In that match, Mbappe and three other PSG players struck the woodwork. Coach Luis Enrique labelled the team’s failure to score despite 31 attempts as “unlucky.”
Mbappe reflected on the game’s outcome, emphasizing the need for better finishing. He acknowledged his role in the team’s performance, stating the necessity to rebound from the loss.
Throughout his seven years with PSG, Mbappe became the club’s top scorer with 255 goals in 306 games. He won six Ligue 1 titles and three Coupes de France, achieving a domestic quadruple in the 2019-2020 season. Additionally, he helped PSG reach their first-ever UEFA Champions League final in 2020.
