In recent developments, caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar addressed the anticipated return of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif to Pakistan. According to Kakar, the decision to potentially handcuff Nawaz Sharif upon his return lies solely with the law enforcement agencies (LEAs). In a discussion with a private news channel, he emphasized that it is within the LEAs’ jurisdiction to evaluate and act according to the law when it comes to Nawaz Sharif’s arrest.
Reflecting on the growing concerns of Nawaz possibly being arrested upon arrival, Kakar clarified that it wasn’t his responsibility to dictate Nawaz’s fate; the decision rests on the leadership of the judicial process and law enforcement. The federal government would only step in if there were signs of the two entities defying the law.
Nawaz Sharif, who fled the country on medical grounds in November 2019, is expected to return on October 21. Previously convicted in corruption cases in 2018, he had been declared an absconder and a proclaimed offender in subsequent years.
PM Kakar Focuses on Improving Gilgit-Baltistan Infrastructure
Separately, Prime Minister Kakar turned his attention towards the development of Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B), instructing concerned authorities to devise a strategy to enhance the communication infrastructure in the region. During a meeting with the socio-political leaders of Hunza and a visit to the Hunar Kohn project of the Karakorum Area Development Organisation (Kado), Kakar assured the swift resolution of existing electricity issues in G-B.
He emphasized the need to establish a coordinated strategy for electricity generation in line with the power sector. Responding to the concerns highlighted by G-B political leadership regarding the challenges faced by the tourism sector, Kakar urged the establishment of aerial connectivity with various regions to foster tourism.
Furthermore, he directed the G-B Chief Secretary to employ all necessary resources to address these concerns promptly. Appreciating the efforts of Kado in local welfare activities and praising the enthusiasm of G-B youth for development, he expressed optimism about the region’s future growth. The meeting saw the participation of several prominent socio-political leaders, including former G-B governor Mir Ghazanfar Ali Khan and ex-member of G-B Assembly Rani Attiqa.
