Washington: A Pentagon lockdown was lifted Thursday after testing found no hazardous material inside the United States Department of Defence building, officials said.
The Pentagon had earlier detected an air-quality issue and ordered affected personnel to shelter in place.
Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said the department followed standard protection protocols during the response.
The incident affected floors 2 through 5 and corridors 4 through 7. Movement in and out of those internal sections was temporarily suspended.
The Pentagon Force Protection Agency and the Arlington County Fire Department hazardous-materials team responded to the incident.
Personnel wearing gas masks and full protective gear entered the building to investigate.
Officials said later testing showed normal safety conditions. The initial alert came from air-monitoring sensors and was later determined to be a sensor glitch.

Parnell said all building operations resumed after the all-clear. The Pentagon had urged building occupants not to speculate about response activity while the investigation was underway.
