ISLAMABAD: An Islamabad university clash involving protesting students and a uniformed individual escalated into an alleged gunshot at Sarhad University of Science and Information Technology, with the suspect later taken into custody, sources said Monday.
The incident occurred at SUSIT’s Chattha Bakhtawar campus, where students were protesting the dismissal of a senior university official and other campus-related issues.
Video circulating on social media showed a uniformed individual approaching a group of students, accompanied by a woman described as a university official. The footage appeared to show him striking a person with a stick before a scuffle broke out.

— Khaleej Mag (@KhaleejMag) August 24, 2026The crowd then surrounded the man, after which he drew a pistol and pointed it toward those nearby, according to the video. He later raised the weapon and appeared to fire into the air as police officers moved in.

A senior Islamabad Police official was later shown telling students that the individual had been escorted from the campus and would face action under military disciplinary procedures.
The investigation said the individual was in custody and that further action would depend on the inquiry’s findings.
No formal statement had been issued by the Islamabad Police, the security forces or the university at the time of the report supplied.
