At least 23 people lost their lives in two separate road accidents in Pakistan on Saturday, highlighting the dangers posed by dense fog and reckless driving.

In Sargodha, a mini Mazda truck plunged into a canal early in the morning after the driver lost control due to heavy fog. Rescue officials said the accident occurred at the Galapur Bangla Bridge, where extremely poor visibility caused the vehicle to veer off the road.

The truck was carrying 23 passengers travelling from Islamabad to Faisalabad to attend a funeral. Fourteen people, including five women, six children, and three men, died on the spot. The canal was dry at the time, and several victims were crushed beneath the vehicle, according to rescue officials. Nine others sustained injuries.

At least 14 members of the same family, including women & 5 children, lost their lives after a truck plunged into a canal amid dense fog in Sargodha.

Rescue teams rushed to the site and shifted the injured and the bodies of the deceased to Kot Momin Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for treatment and legal formalities.

In a separate incident, at least nine people were killed when a passenger bus overturned on the Makran Coastal Highway in Balochistan.

According to Superintendent of Police Coastal Highway Aslam Bangulzai, the bus was travelling from Karachi to Jiwani when it overturned near the Hudd area due to overspeeding. Rescue operations were carried out with the support of security forces and Rescue 1122. The injured and deceased were shifted to Ormara Hospital.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise extreme caution during foggy conditions and to strictly adhere to speed limits to prevent such tragedies.
