ISLAMABAD: The federal government launched a Pakistan retailer tax app on August 19 to help small traders and shopkeepers file returns under its fixed-tax scheme.
State Minister for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani said officials developed the app after consulting traders and their representatives. Kayani said the digital system would also help shopkeepers outside the tax net become filers.
The government introduced the retailer scheme in June. According to Kayani, it carries a 1% tax rate, while authorities adjust the withholding tax that has already been deducted.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb also said the government was simplifying tax returns for salaried people. He said the form should be limited to six or eight pages.
Aurangzeb urged all sectors to enter the tax net. He also described withholding collected sales tax from the national exchequer as a criminal act.
