Exciting news for fans of early 2000s television: a sequel to the beloved drama “One Tree Hill” is currently developing at Netflix. The upcoming series aims to recapture the charm of Tree Hill with several original cast members involved.
Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton, and Daneel Ackles are not only returning but will also executive produce the sequel. Ackles will lead the project under her Chaos Machine banner, co-operating with her husband, Jensen Ackles. Becky Hartman-Edwards, recognized for her contributions to “Firefly Lane” and “Parenthood,” will join as a writer and executive producer. The original series producer, Warner Bros Television, will continue its production role.
Bush will return as the sharp-witted Brooke Davis, and Burton will return as the enigmatic Peyton Sawyer. Talks are ongoing for Ackles to return, although it remains uncertain if other original stars, such as Chad Michael Murray, James Lafferty, or Bethany Joy Lenz, will participate.
The original “One Tree Hill” series, which spanned nine seasons on The WB and The CW, chronicled the lives of half-brothers Lucas and Nathan Scott in the fictional town of Tree Hill, North Carolina, transitioning from a basketball rivalry to a complex web of relationships and family drama.
Bush, Burton, and Lenz previously reunited to host the “Drama Queens” podcast, a rewatch series for “One Tree Hill,” although Burton exited after the sixth season. Robert Buckley, a later addition to the cast, has since filled the trio.
