On Monday, tennis star Naomi Osaka announced on her Instagram story that she and rapper Cordae have ended their five-year relationship.
In her post, the four-time Grand Slam champion conveyed that the split was amicable, highlighting their mutual dedication to their 1-year-old daughter, Shai. “Hi everyone, just wanted to say that Cordae and I are no longer in a relationship,” Osaka, 27, wrote. “No bad blood at all; he’s a great person and an awesome dad. Honestly, I’m really glad our paths crossed because my daughter is my biggest blessing, and I was able to grow a lot from our experiences together.”
Osaka did not mention when the breakup occurred. However, speculation about their split started in late 2023 after she removed photos of Cordae from her social media accounts. Cordae, also 27, has not yet made any public comments regarding the breakup.

The couple began dating in 2018 and made their first public appearance at a Los Angeles Clippers game in 2019, having kept their relationship private for nearly a year. Throughout their time together, they maintained a private stance concerning their details, a principle Cordae emphasized in a 2021 GQ interview: “A relationship is a sacred thing. Once you let outside influences get into it, it becomes less sacred.”

Despite the separation, Osaka is optimistic about their co-parenting future. In a 2023 interview with InStyle, she spoke highly of Cordae’s relaxed nature and shared her focus on their daughter’s welfare. “At the end of the day, we both want what’s best for Shai,” she noted.
The announcement comes shortly after Osaka withdrew from the WTA Auckland Open final due to an abdominal injury. The former world No. 1 returned to tennis last year after maternity leave and is now concentrating on her recovery and forthcoming tournaments.
