ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan IMF review is expected to begin on September 22, with the fourth assessment of the $7 billion Extended Fund Facility running alongside an Article IV consultation.
The International Monetary Fund mission is expected to hold discussions in Karachi and Islamabad for about two weeks. IMF Resident Representative for Pakistan Mahir Binici confirmed that a mission would visit the country in the coming weeks for the programme review and Article IV consultations, without publicly specifying the September 22 start date.
The IMF’s latest programme documents confirm that the fourth EFF review is scheduled for September 2026 and will assess Pakistan’s performance against end-June 2026 quantitative targets, continuous performance criteria and other programme commitments.

The review follows the IMF Executive Board’s completion of the third EFF review on May 8, which unlocked about $1.1 billion for Pakistan. The 37-month programme was originally approved in September 2024 for about $7 billion.
The upcoming mission is also expected to examine progress on reforms stemming from the Governance and Corruption Diagnostic (GCD). IMF programme documents require Pakistan to advance an economic governance reform plan and complete further anti-corruption measures during 2026.
The IMF Executive Board concluded Pakistan’s previous Article IV consultation on September 25, 2024, when it also approved the current EFF arrangement.
