Actor Milly Alcock said her “Supergirl” role presents Kara Zor-El as a “beautifully flawed” and resilient contrast to David Corenswet’s Superman.
Alcock told Empire magazine that DC Studios co-chief James Gunn is taking the character in a different direction. She said Kara is shaped by trauma and survival.
Director Craig Gillespie said Ana Nogueira’s “Supergirl” script drew him in within its opening scenes. He said the film focuses on character and keeps Kara’s rough edges.
Gillespie, known for “I, Tonya” and “Cruella,” said he was drawn to a tone built around flawed, complex characters. He compared that appeal to what he liked about the first “Iron Man.”
