A Malaysian hiker rescue ended a two-week search on Saturday after Indigenous Malaysians located 49-year-old Jaslinda Saludin near Tapah in Perak, local media reports said.
Following the rescue, the authorities then took Saludin to the hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries, insect bites and head wounds, the Perak Fire and Rescue Department said.
Saludin, an experienced hiker, had disappeared during the 34-kilometre Trans Spencer Chapman trek along the Titiwangsa mountain range.
Before rescuers launched the search, she had left a rest camp alone to climb Gunung Batu Putih, also known as White Rock Mountain.
The case drew national attention in Malaysia. As a result, helicopters, Indigenous communities and a specialist Fire and Rescue Department team joined the operation.
Local reports said Saludin survived by drinking river water and eating berries and forest plants. Her friend Hishammuddin Ahmad called the rescue “truly a miracle.”
