Nobel Peace laureate Malala Yousafzai declared on Sunday her commitment to denouncing Israel’s breaches of international law and human rights in Gaza.

Speaking at a global summit on girls’ education in Muslim nations hosted by Pakistan and attended by delegates from numerous countries, she criticized the severe impact on Gaza’s educational system. “Israel has decimated the entire education system in Gaza,” she stated at the conference, highlighting the extensive damage to universities and schools and attacks on civilians sheltering in educational buildings.

Malala, who militants attacked at age 15 due to her advocacy for education, has since made a notable recovery and became the youngest Nobel Prize winner at 17. She emphasized the dire consequences for Palestinian children, particularly girls, whose educational and familial environments have been destroyed.

The conflict in Gaza escalated following an attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023, which resulted in 1,208 deaths on the Israeli side, predominantly civilians, and saw 251 hostages taken, with 94 still retained in Gaza, including 34 declared dead by the Israeli military.
