A series of attacks has resulted in several Iranian leaders being killed in US-Israeli strikes, significantly affecting the country’s political and military leadership.

These strikes targeted senior officials across multiple levels, raising concerns about stability within Iran’s command structure.

Among the most significant losses was Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader since 1989. He was killed in an air strike on his compound on February 28.

Khamenei had maintained strong control over Iran’s political system for decades. His leadership shaped the country’s security policies and regional influence. Several high-ranking officials were also killed in subsequent strikes.

An Israeli strike on March 18 killed Esmail Khatib, Iran’s intelligence minister. Khatib had worked closely with the Supreme Leader and oversaw the country’s intelligence apparatus.

Earlier, strikes on February 28 killed Ali Shamkhani, a senior adviser involved in nuclear and security matters, while also targeting Iran’s top military leadership.

The February 28 attacks also killed Mohammad Pakpour, commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), who had risen through the ranks to lead Iran’s most powerful military force.

In the same wave of strikes, Israeli forces killed Aziz Nasirzadeh, Iran’s defence minister, who played a central role in defence planning.

Abdolrahim Mousavi, chief of staff of Iran’s armed forces, died along with other senior officers during a reported leadership meeting in Tehran.

On March 17, the killing of Gholamreza Soleimani removed the head of the Basij paramilitary force, which plays a key role in internal security operations.

On March 26, an Israeli strike in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas killed Behnam Rezaei, the Revolutionary Guards’ navy intelligence chief.

The deaths of senior political figures and top military commanders have introduced new uncertainty into decision-making and long-term strategic planning. Analysts warn that this disruption could have lasting effects on Iran’s internal stability and its posture across the region.
