Burgenstock, Switzerland: The Lake Lucerne Summit ended with a 60-day roadmap for a final U.S.-Iran deal, Qatar and Pakistan said in a joint statement.
The State of Qatar and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan said the first high-level session took place under the terms of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. Representatives from Iran, the United States and both mediating countries attended the talks.
The joint statement said the summit was held in a “positive and constructive atmosphere.” It said the parties made progress, including the establishment of a mechanism for further technical talks.
The parties agreed to form a High-Level Committee to give political oversight to the mediation. Chief negotiators will report to the committee and lead working groups on nuclear issues, sanctions, monitoring and dispute resolution.
Qatar and Pakistan said the committee agreed on a roadmap toward a final deal within 60 days. The agreement allows technical talks to begin immediately at the Burgenstock resort.
The parties also created a communication line to prevent incidents and miscommunication. The line aims to support safe passage for commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, according to the statement.
