LAHORE, Punjab: Lahore tutoring centre collapse death toll rose to 15 after rescuers recovered 14 children and a teacher from rubble in Kahna, Punjab, rescue services said.
The children who died were aged between five and 16, with most under nine. Emergency responders also recovered the body of a 30-year-old teacher from beneath the debris.
AP reported that at least eight children were injured after the roof collapsed at the tutoring centre in eastern Lahore.

Preliminary findings showed that the tutoring centre was not officially registered and was operating from a private residential building with a deteriorating roof.
The roof collapsed on Tuesday, June 30, at an educational centre offering supplementary instruction in Lahore’s Kahna area.

President Asif Ali Zardari expressed condolences and called for stronger safety measures to prevent similar incidents.
“The loss of the precious lives of innocent children is extremely heartbreaking for the entire nation,” Zardari said in the statement. Police arrested the owner of the tutoring centre and another person after the collapse.
