SAN FRANCISCO: xAI launched Imagine Image 2.0 on Friday as Grok’s new Quality Mode across the web, iOS and Android, adding tighter layout control and precise editing tools.
The model follows detailed prompts while organising text and complex visual layouts, xAI said in its official announcement. It also aims to preserve supplied visual elements across generations and edits.
New editing controls include a magic wand for selecting specific regions and a segmentation tool for isolating elements. Users can also remove backgrounds and export subjects with transparent backgrounds.
Imagine Image 2.0 accepts up to 5 reference images per generation. Therefore, users can combine subjects, styles and other visual elements without manually assembling each image.
The Smart Resize feature expands an existing image to fit nine supported aspect ratios. These range from a vertical 1:2 frame to a wide 2:1 format and include square, portrait and landscape options.
xAI also introduced templates for photo editing, product images, professional portraits, icons, character sprites, emojis and merchandise designs. Each template provides a configured workflow that users can customise with their own inputs.
The company said the model ranked second on Arena’s text-to-image and image-editing leaderboards as of August 7. However, the ranking represents a snapshot of the independent platform’s results rather than a permanent benchmark position.
