Karachi faces another heatwave on May 7, the Meteorological Department warned, as rescue sources reported 14 heat-related deaths in the city over two days.
Deputy Director of the Meteorological Department, Anjum Nazeer Zegham, said that current scorching temperatures may ease by Tuesday, but the relief would be temporary. He said temperatures could fall to 38°C before rising again.
The Met Department said the next heatwave would affect Karachi and other parts of Sindh. Zegham warned that hot conditions would continue through the month, with temperatures likely to rise sharply again after May 13.
Health experts advised citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor activity during the afternoon. They urged people to drink plenty of water and keep their heads covered to reduce direct sun exposure.
Rescue sources said eight more people died during the latest spell of extreme heat, including two suspected drug addicts. They said four people reached hospitals in critical condition and later died, while two others died directly from heatstroke.

Rescue teams recovered bodies from several parts of Karachi, including Boat Basin in Clifton, Liaquatabad No. 10 bridge, Jamali Bridge on the Super Highway, Surjani Town, Defence Phase 8, Suparco Road in Baldia, Manghopir and Gulshan-e-Hadeed.
Karachi recorded near heatwave conditions on Monday, with the maximum temperature expected to reach 42°C. Weather officials linked the severe heat to suspended sea breeze and hot, dry northwesterly winds.
