Karachi police launched an investigation after unidentified suspects stole 25 sacrificial goats worth more than Rs1.9 million from Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Sindh, ahead of Eid al-Adha.
Police and the owner said thieves stole the animals between Friday and Saturday night from a plot in Block 8-A of Gulistan-e-Jauhar, where the owner had tied them for sale during the Eid season.
Owner Muhammad Osama Khan told police that the suspects arrived on motorcycles and in a car before loading the goats into a mini-truck and fleeing the area.
CCTV footage of the incident later surfaced, showing several men coordinating the theft in the late hours.
Malir Cantt police registered a formal report. Investigators said they were examining CCTV footage and mobile videos to identify the suspects and trace the mini-truck used in the escape.
Police officials said traders had brought the goats to Karachi for Eid al-Adha sales, with each animal valued at an average of more than Rs. 76,000.
Karachi and other cities have seen a rise in livestock thefts in recent years, particularly in the weeks before Eid al-Adha, when demand and prices for sacrificial animals increase sharply.
